Kidbrooke Games Club
Situated at the heart of the Village in our community centre, Kidbrooke Games Club is one of the most popular activities for families on-site, meeting once a week for parents and their children aged 4-12.
The club was started by local resident Vidushi, who moved here following a long search for the combination of a newbuild, green open spaces and somewhere for families. Kidbrooke Village ticked every box!
She started the club in Summer 2023, looking for something to do with her son that was sociable and interactive, and that incorporated their love of board games, something they quickly discovered was wanted by other families. After an approach from Vidushi, Berkeley helped set up the club, seeing the value in a sociable place for families to meet and have fun. Greenwich Co-operative Development Agency (GCDA) provided a space in the community centre, and Berkeley provided advice on how to set-up and run a Community Interest Company (CIC) as well as initially donating board games and food vouchers for the first sessions. The Club has since been successful in a funding application and an additional £2,500 from Berkeley to support these activities going forwards and keep the club free to use.
Vidushi said “We are so grateful for Berkeley’s support in making my vision for the community come alive. We have around 20 children and their parents attend every week, and all of our feedback has shown how much they value spending time together in this friendly environment and building ties with the local community. We always encourage parents to stay so they can make real connections, and it is rare chance away from screens!”
Looking ahead, whilst she always wants to keep the club as primarily a board games activity place, Vidushi would love to expand into supporting older children and even the elderly with a similar type of club targeted appropriately, and even spread the concept to other community centres locally. Fun family time with the competitive edge of a good board game? We’re in!
