Charity Work

Demelza Hospice Care for Children

This year (2023) Berkeley announced that it would be continuing its 10-year charity partnership with Demelza Hospice Care for Children. A partnership which has seen in excess of £500,000 raised through a range of fundraising activities since 2012. Additionally, over 480 hours of volunteer work undertaken for the Greenwich based charity.

The standout event to take place over the last decade is the annual five-a-side football tournament, which in the last two years alone has raised £78,000 with all funds matched by the Berkeley Foundation (the charitable foundation set up by Berkeley Group). Staff have also obtained sponsorship donations to participate in long distance bike rides, mountain climbing expeditions and marathons for the charity.

Further support has come in the form of 480 hours of volunteer work being completed. Tasks such as garden landscaping, painting and helping out with organising items that have been donated to their distribution centre are always welcome. In 2019, Berkeley completely transformed three family rooms at the charity’s Eltham hospice.

The incredible work that Demelza Hospice provides is entirely dependent on the generosity of its supporters. Without money or people’s time, it would be unable to provide the care and support for seriously or terminally ill young people and their families, making charity partnerships like the one with Berkeley pivotal to
its future.

Lavinia Jarrett, Chief Executive at Demelza Hospice Care for Children

“We are delighted that Berkeley will continue to be our charity partner. Over the past 10 years, it has not only raised awareness of our services through its supplier network and the Berkeley Foundation but also raised vital funds, helping us support more children and families who need us.

“Berkeley also generously provided the recent high quality refurbishment of the family rooms in our Eltham hospice. Improvements like this give families the space and opportunity to build memories, for however long they have together. Thank you for continuing to support Demelza.
