Dragons Den Update
At the start of the year (2024), Kidbrooke Village hosted its first Dragons Den event (click here to read the full story), which saw MGM Gym take home the £3,000 prize fund (sponsored by Berkeley and Moat Foundation). Owned by Kidbrooke Village resident Jonathan Moore and his sister Hannah-Ruth Moore, the gym (located in Edward Street, Deptford) provides a place where people of all ages can come together in a safe space to engage in dance, martial arts and fitness activities.
Since winning the competition, the siblings have been busy utilising their prize fund which included business development support from South East Enterprise / Start Up Greenwich, merchandise from Lydia Digital, virtual office address for one year, branding and design from TwentySeven4, featuring on the Kidbrooke Village community website and a professional photoshoot with Olga Photography (pictures which have been used in this story).
“Both myself and my sister are professional athletes so the physical aspect and devising bespoke programmes for our members comes naturally. However, we are both responsible for running it as a business, which is why winning the competition came at the right time.”
Jonathan continued: “Clive Jelf from South East Enterprise has been incredibly helpful in sharing his expertise and opened our eyes to discussing new business opportunities. These will allow us to expand our client base and enter into strategic partnerships. Kylie and Ashley from TwentySeven4 have been fun to work with too. They are currently devising our branding strategy which will aid with the merchandise we plan to sell (leggings, hoodies T-shirts, boxing gloves and more). In fact, the photoshoot with Olga has provided us with some professional eye-catching pictures, to promote our business even further.
With so much happening in such a short space of time, Hannah-Ruth is excited for the future: “MGM Gym was named after our Father and we are fortunate to be in a position where we can combine our passion for Dance and Muay Thai and allow others to achieve their goals too. Exercise plays a vital role in enhancing your mental wellbeing and environments like this allow people to meet like-minded individuals.
“We are more than aware that sustaining and growing the business will require a lot of hard work and sacrifice. Attributes which we have had to call on as professional athletes and hope to transport these as business owners.”
