TRANSFORMING LIVES COLLABORATIVELEY
Last month, Councillors from Royal Borough of Greenwich joined Directors from Berkeley and L&Q at Kidbrooke Village to meet residents who have directly benefitted from their collaborative partnership work, which saw105 affordable rented homes delivered at Helio House in July.
Deborah (pictured below) moved from her one-bedroom home to a three bedroom apartment in July and said: “The children are over the moon… My daughter loves it here! The neighbourhood is wonderfully multicultural and I can do all my shopping in this area, I can get whatever I need”.
Rahman pictured below was similarly enthusiastic about the new home he shared with his family and said: “Happy home. Happy family. Happy community!”.
Cabinet Member for Regeneration Councillor Aidan Smith said: “We loved meeting the residents and hearing how these homes are transforming their lives. We have pioneered a multi-strand approach to affordable home-building in Royal Greenwich, ensuring that we maximise every opportunity for creating the homes local people need.”
“Our partnerships with housing associations and developers is one cornerstone of this strategy, and Kidbrooke Village shows the benefits it can bring: modern, high-quality, secure housing for people on the housing waiting list, with shared ownership for those in our borough who want an affordable way onto the property ladder.”
Karl Whiteman, Divisional Managing Director for Berkeley said: “The completion of Helio House at Kidbrooke Village is a great example of partnership work. I sincerely hope these new residents enjoy being part of the vibrant community which represents all that is good about living in London.”
Upon completion Kidbrooke Village will have 5,268 new homes, out of those 1,930 will be affordable properties with 1,129 delivered so far.
GREENWICH FAMILY ARTS FESTIVAL
On Saturday 8th July, hundreds of residents from Kidbrooke Village and the surrounding community braved the rain to watch Tramshed’s Greenwich Arts Family Festival, sponsored by Berkeley.
The Rajasthan Heritage Band kicked off the event with a spectacular celebration of the vibrant colourful lifestyle of Rajasthan. Through a music and dance performance in Pegler Square before leading the crowds across to Cator Park North. It was here that the Circus Raj took over with their elite street circus performers displaying a series of breath-taking acts of courage and bravery.
Cabinet Member for Regeneration Councillor Aidan Smith attended the event and said:
“Events like this are brilliant as it brings the community together. I liked the way it started in Pegler Square as it attracted crowds of people and as they moved across to the park you saw a group of kids playing football stop what they were doing and joined in.”
All the action from the day was covered on our social channels including Instagram, which can be found here.
